About

Rosie Fennell

(b. 2002) Rosie is a self-taught British artist, raised on the Isle of Wight and based in London. Her early practice has involved a number of commissioned portraits.

Rosie has taught workshops at some local schools and a boutique hotel on the Isle of Wight. During these workshops, she has aimed to create a relaxed and encouraging environment for people who may not have had the opportunity to be creative before.

Alongside commissioned work, she has been developing a more experimental body of figurative work. She has named these her “Hypotheticals.” Rosie paints almost human figures, with the goal of immortalizing and reflecting on her complicated feelings around flesh and the human experience.

hypothetical (adj.) “an idea or situation that is imagined or suggested but not necessarily real or true.”

These works examine how our physical forms relate to the stories, emotions, and contradictions we carry. By removing the soul from the physical, would we carry the same emotional wounds that we naturally gain over time?
